Stories of Hope
Mary Coughlan Therapy Support
Talented and renowned singer Mary Coughlan experienced sexual abuse as a young girl. Although Mary has not used the services of One in Four, she is a supporter of our work and a supporter of the power of therapy. Mary describes the therapy process as a 'long road, a hard road' but one that is ultimately freeing. In Mary's words: 'I had to drag myself out of sheer hell, and my family as well. So it can be done, and getting help, just saying it is the first step and going to somebody and talking about it. Because it really frees you to enjoy the rest of your life after that.' Mary is an advocate for our motto Sexual Abuse: From surviving to living.
In June 2011 Mary took part in our annual Ómós (to honour) event and on the night Mary took part in an interview.
Mary being interviewed at Ómós 2011 by journalist & broadcaster Dil Wickremasinghe, the clip ends with a song Mary performed on the night.
