PRESS RELEASE: Abseil the Skyview Tower for One in Four

Take on the One in Four Skyview Tower abseil on Sunday 29th May

One in Four are looking for brave and capable participants who want to raise valuable income for survivors of child sexual abuse.

Many people who have been sexually abused as a child struggle all their lives with feelings of anxiety, shame, loneliness and depression. The self- isolation necessary during the coronavirus pandemic heightened these feelings for people, many of whom reached out to One in Four for help for the first time. The demand on the charities services has increased considerably, to meet the needs of survivors, One in Four have relocated to a bigger premise on Arran Quay - just around the corner from the Skyview Tower.

Taking part in the abseil means One in Four can provide valuable therapy hours to survivors fully explore the impact childhood sexual abuse has had on their lives, to deal with the painful emotions and to move on with their lives free from the trauma inflicted upon them as children.  No experience is necessary, as full training is provided on the day.

One in Four have run several successful abseils in the past. One past volunteer, Mark, who took part in last year’s challenge said, ‘I hadn’t really done anything like this before but the abseil company were amazing. They really knew what they were doing and put me at ease straight away. I heard some amazing stories from other participants of how the charity had helped them, but some of the other people I abseiled with just wanted to do something fun and rewarding.’

Eva Kavanagh, One in Four’s Fundraising officer, explained more about the challenge, ‘The challenge of abseil The Skyview Tower in Smithfield is really exciting, it’s our first ever abseiling event down this iconic landmark, former chimney for the Jameson Distillery. You will climb 244 steps to the top of the tower and abseil 190 feet down into Smithfield Square – just around the corner from the new premises.’

Participants must be over 16 and no abseiling experience is required. This event is run in conjunction with a professional abseil company who will provide full training on the day.
