As my internship at One in Four Ireland comes to a close, I want to reflect on my incredible journey working for this organization. One in Four Ireland has a profound mission: to support and empower survivors of childhood sexual abuse while striving to create a society where children are safe from this threat. As a fundraising intern, I was part of a team dedicated to helping make this meaningful change. Join me as I share my experience and its impact on me.

From day one, I was welcomed into a passionate community of people that believe in the power of empathy and support. The team at One in Four Ireland shares a deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of survivors. They promote an environment where every voice matters, empowering me to contribute and learn alongside them. The unity and shared purpose within the organization is truly inspiring.

During my time, I gained valuable experience in various aspects of fundraising. From conducting donor research to creating compelling fundraising appeals, I was given hands-on opportunities to develop my skills. The guidance and mentorship from John Ryan and the rest fundraising team were instrumental in my growth. They encouraged me to think creatively, challenge conventional approaches, and explore innovative ways to engage potential donors.

I was able to learn more about the support and therapeutic services One in Four offers to survivors by talking to our Clinical Director, Julie Brown. Julie shared her deep admiration for the courageous individuals she gets to meet as part of her role. She expressed how inspiring it is to witness survivors' strength as they go through their healing journey. She also highlighted the organization's commitment to providing accessible services, explaining how the therapists work closely with survivors to create a safe environment, tailoring treatment plans to meet individual needs, all at such a low cost. One in Four Ireland's dedication to healing and prevention made me proud to be part of the team.

Working at One in Four Ireland has been a transformative experience for me. It has deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by survivors and the importance of providing specialized support. This internship has helped develop my empathy and taught me the significance of active listening and understanding in supporting others. As my six-week journey as a fundraising intern at One in Four Ireland draws close, I leave with immense gratitude and admiration for the organization's work. Through my experiences, I have come to appreciate the power of collective action and the unwavering dedication of those committed to making a difference. One in Four Ireland has shaped my understanding of sexual violence entirely. I am honored to have been part of this remarkable organization. I will continue to support their mission long after my internship ends. Together, we can build a society where survivors are heard, supported, and empowered.
